Imperial Volnian Navy

Service chief: First Sea Lord of the Imperial Volnian Navy (Pervyi Morskoy Lord) Active strength: ~85,000 Doctrine: Sea denial and coastal control; submarine-led anti-surface warfare; expeditionary support

The Imperial Volnian Navy (IVN) is the maritime service of the VIAF. Smaller than the Federation Navy and qualitatively a generation behind FSA platforms, the IVN remains a credible second-tier blue-water force — particularly through its submarine arm, which has been the empire's continuous naval priority since the late 20th century.

The Imperial Marines (Morskaya Pekhota) — the navy's amphibious infantry arm — are among the most prestigious formations in the empire.

Fleets

Imperial Volnian Northern Fleet

The senior fleet, based at Severovolkha Naval Base on the Volnian Sea.

  • 1 × Imperator-class carrier (IVS Imperator Aleksandr)
  • 2 × Knyaz-class heavy cruisers
  • 8 × Slava-class destroyers
  • 4 × Knyaz-class attack submarines (SSN)
  • 2 × Imperatritsa-class ballistic-missile submarines (SSBN)
  • Northern Marines (1st Marine Brigade 'Tsesarevich')

Imperial Volnian Southern Fleet (Sur'Bari Squadron)

Based at Yuzhny-Port Naval Base on the southern coast.

  • 1 × Imperator-class carrier (IVS Imperator Nikolai)
  • 1 × Knyaz-class cruiser, 5 × Slava-class destroyers, 3 × Knyaz-class SSN
  • Amphibious task group with embarked Marines
  • 2nd Marine Brigade 'Sevastopol'

Imperial Volnian Aegiran Squadron

Forward-deployed at Tsarsky-Aegir Forward Operating Base in conjunction with WDP partners.

  • 1 × Knyaz-class cruiser, 4 × Slava-class destroyers, 2 × Knyaz-class SSN
  • 3rd Marine Brigade 'Tsarsky' embarked

Imperial Marines

The Imperial Marines (Morskaya Pekhota) are the navy's amphibious infantry — three brigades, one per fleet, embarked aboard amphibious task groups. Their lineage runs back to the original naval landing companies of the 18th-century empire and they retain the most ornate ceremonial uniforms in the IVN.

Marine doctrine is amphibious assault and ship-takedown operations — closer to the historical Royal Marines model than to a separate-service expeditionary force.

Imperial Naval Special Warfare — Razvedchiki

The Razvedchiki ("Reconnaissance Men") are the navy's combat dive and special operations arm. Two brigades — one each in the Northern and Southern fleets — provide:

  • Combat diving and underwater demolitions
  • Beach reconnaissance and pre-amphibious-assault scouting
  • Ship-takedown and counter-piracy operations
  • Maritime special operations in support of Stavka-level missions

Submarine arm

The IVN's submarine force is the qualitative high point of the modern Volnian fleet. The Knyaz-class SSN is a credible second-tier attack submarine and the empire's principal sea-denial weapon. The Imperatritsa-class SSBN retains the empire's strategic-deterrent capability under the Outer Space Demilitarization Protocols' restrictions on orbital weapons.

The submarine force is based primarily at Severovolkha with a smaller forward base at Yuzhny-Port.
