Royal Armed Forces of Choktovakia

The Royal Armed Forces of Choktovakia (RAF) — Korolyevskiye Vooruzhennyye Sily Choktovakii — are the unified military of the Kingdom of Choktovakia. Three principal services under a single Royal General Staff, with the King of Choktovakia as constitutional Supreme Commander, the Chief of the Royal General Staff as senior uniformed officer, and the Minister of War as the civilian-cabinet figure providing parliamentary accountability.

The RAF is one of the two peer-scale militaries on Europa — the only one comparable in capability and depth to the Federation Armed Forces of Arcadia — and the military foundation of Choktovakian non-aligned posture.

Joint and special-purpose formations bring the active-force total to approximately 480,000. The trained ready reserve, sustained through universal male conscription, brings the wartime mobilized strength to approximately 1,480,000 — though the planning assumption is that mobilization at full depth would take 60–90 days.

Supreme command

The RAF is commanded through the following structure:

  • The King of Choktovakia — constitutional Supreme Commander; the Crown's command authority is substantive rather than ceremonial
  • Royal Defense Council — the King's standing advisory body on military affairs, attended by the Chief of the General Staff, the service chiefs, the Foreign Minister, the Minister of War, and the Prime Minister
  • Chief of the Royal General Staff — senior uniformed officer; commands operationally on the Crown's direction
  • Royal General Staff — the joint staff supporting the Chief and the Crown
  • Service Chiefs — Army, Navy, Air Force, each reporting through the Chief of the General Staff to the Crown
  • Minister of War — cabinet civilian providing parliamentary accountability through the Sobor

The current Chief of the Royal General Staff is Marshal Andrey Volkov, appointed 2022, former Commander of the Western Military District. He is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy at Konigsgrad and the Krovar War College.

Military districts and theater commands

Choktovakian territory is divided into four military districts, each commanded by a senior general officer reporting through the Chief of the General Staff:

Military District Headquarters Principal mission
Western Military District Stepnograd The steppe frontier; the principal heavy-armor garrison; the Black Mountain and CSAT axes
Central Military District Krovar The strategic reserve; capital defense; air-defense headquarters; the Royal Guard formations
Northern Military District Severgrad The Northern Fleet; arctic operations; the Polnoch sector
Eastern Military District Tovargrad The Eastern Fleet; the Hinomuran and Pelwan theaters; the eastern airspace

The Western District is the largest by personnel and contains the bulk of the country's heavy-armor formations. The Central District holds the strategic reserve and the elite airborne and air-assault corps. The Northern District commands the submarine arm and the arctic deployment. The Eastern District commands the surface fleet and the eastern airspace.

Joint Force Headquarters

The Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) at Krovar-Yug is the operational nerve center of the RAF. JFHQ exercises:

  • Operational command of major joint operations
  • Joint targeting and fires coordination
  • Cyber and electronic-warfare integration through the Joint Cyber Command
  • Strategic deterrence integration through the Strategic Forces cell

Joint and special commands

  • Royal Joint Special Operations Command (RJSOC) — interservice special operations
  • Royal Joint Cyber Command (RJCC) — cyber defense and offensive operations
  • Royal Joint Strategic Reconnaissance Command (RJSRC) — strategic intelligence
  • Royal Joint Logistics Command (RJLC) — supply, transport, medical
  • Royal Strategic Forces Command (RSFC) — strategic deterrent forces (Protocols-compliant configuration)
  • Royal Joint Training Command (RJTC) — service academies, basic and advanced training, war colleges

Doctrine

Choktovakian military doctrine is built around four integrated layers:

Heavy armor and combined arms — the western shield

The doctrinal core of the Royal Army is mass armor employed in combined arms across the western steppe. The country's main battle tank — the T-14 Armata, mass-produced at Krov Heavy Industries — is the largest fourth-generation tank fleet on Europa, fielded in heavy armor divisions concentrated in the Western Military District. Doctrine emphasizes:

  • Echelon-deep formations — successive armored echelons capable of sustained operational depth
  • Combined-arms integration — armor, mechanized infantry, self-propelled artillery, and rotary aviation in tightly-coordinated tactical groupings
  • Operational maneuver — exploitation by deep-reaching armored formations through breakthrough points achieved by the leading echelons
  • Counter-armor specialization — significant investment in anti-tank capability across all arms, reflecting the doctrinal assumption that the principal future war will be armor-on-armor

Elite airborne and air-assault — the strategic depth

The Royal Airborne Corps and the Royal Air-Assault Corps are the elite mobile-reserve formations of the army. Together they comprise approximately 60,000 personnel, organized into:

  • Three airborne divisions — parachute-qualified, capable of strategic-level air drop
  • Two air-assault divisions — helicopter-borne, capable of operational-depth helicopter assault
  • Independent air-assault and airborne brigades — for theater-specific missions

The airborne and air-assault forces are the country's strategic-response capability — the formations that can be moved fastest to any theater and deployed against any threat. They are also the most prestigious tier of the Army, drawing the highest quality of volunteer service and providing the bulk of the senior leadership of the broader Army officer corps.

Surface fleet east, submarine fleet north

Choktovakian naval doctrine reflects the country's split-theater geography:

The Eastern Fleet is the surface-fleet emphasis — operating from the warm-water ports of the Hinomuran Sea and Sea of Pelwan, built around the country's two aircraft carriers, a substantial cruiser and destroyer force, and the principal surface-combatant industrial base at Tovargrad. The Eastern Fleet's mission is sea control across the eastern seas, presence in SNAM waters, and the deep-water force capable of opposing major peer naval operations.

The Northern Fleet is the submarine emphasis — operating from the ice-prone ports of the Choktovan Sea, built around the country's nuclear attack submarines (SSN), AIP-equipped conventional attack submarines (SSK), modernised cruise-missile submarines (SSGN), and a small surface component for arctic and littoral operations. The Northern Fleet's mission is undersea sea-control against any northern adversary and the underwater leg of the country's conventional strategic-strike posture (the SSGN force carrying long-range cruise missiles). Per the Sierran Conflict canon, no Europan power fields ballistic-missile submarines — all Choktovakian strategic strike is conventional.

Integrated air defense

The Royal Choktovakian Air Force operates one of the densest integrated air-defense systems in the world, layered through:

  • Long-range surface-to-air missile systems for theater-level air defense
  • Medium-range mobile SAMs for force protection and area defense
  • Short-range air defense (SHORAD) for formation and point defense
  • Interceptor and air-superiority aviation for active air defense

The system is designed to defend the heartland against the kind of strategic air campaign last seen during the Continental Wars, and to provide layered protection for deployed army formations operating in contested airspace.

Conscription and personnel

  • Universal male conscription at age 18; two-year active service
  • Reserve obligation through age 45 — all conscripts remain on the rolls as ready reservists, subject to recall in mobilization
  • Volunteer service open to women; volunteer rates have risen steadily since 2020 and now constitute approximately 8 percent of the active force
  • Professional officer corps — entry through the Royal Military Academy at Konigsgrad (Army), the Royal Naval Academy at Severgrad (Navy), or the Royal Air Academy at Krovar-Yug (Air Force)
  • Professional NCO corps — entry through service-specific NCO academies after initial conscript service

The conscription system is constitutionally entrenched and culturally robust. Choktovakian public opinion treats two-year military service as a normal stage of adult-male life, comparable to university education or vocational apprenticeship; deferral, exemption, and conscientious-objection paths exist but are narrow.

Special operations

The Choktovakian special-operations community is built around three formations under the Royal Joint Special Operations Command:

  • Royal Choktovakian Special Forces (Strike Force) — the senior tier-1 SOF, organized into four regional Strike Brigades; specialized in deep reconnaissance, direct action, and unconventional warfare
  • Naval Strike Force — the Navy's SOF tier, combat-diver and small-boat specialists, attached to the Eastern and Northern Fleets
  • Air-Assault Reconnaissance — the airborne-corps SOF tier, providing strategic reconnaissance for the airborne divisions

The combined Choktovakian SOF community is approximately 5,000 personnel, with operational coordination through RJSOC.

The Royal Guard

The Royal Guard of Choktovakia (Korolyevskaya Gvardiya) is both a ceremonial institution and a fully-operational military formation. The Guard's establishment dates to the 1523 founding; its modern role combines:

  • The Royal Foot Guards — ceremonial protection of the Crown and the royal residences; one of the most recognizable symbols of the modern monarchy
  • The Guards Mechanized Division — a fully-operational heavy mechanized formation, garrisoned at Krovar, providing capital defense and constituting a strategic reserve
  • The Guards Airborne Regiment — an elite airborne formation drawn from the Royal Airborne Corps but under Guard command

The Guard officers are by tradition drawn from across all social classes — the regiments are not a closed nobility — but service in the Guard is considered one of the highest honors of the Choktovakian military and is intensely competitive.

Strategic strike (conventional)

Choktovakia maintains a conventional strategic-strike posture under the Outer Space Demilitarization Protocols. Per Sierran Conflict canon, no Europan power fields nuclear weapons of any kind, and there is no orbital kinetic capability. The Choktovakian strategic-strike triad consists of:

  • Long-range strategic aviation — the Tu-160M "White Swan" long-range bomber fleet (~16–24 aircraft) carrying conventional air-launched cruise missiles, operated by Long-Range Aviation Command of the Royal Choktovakian Air Force
  • Conventional cruise-missile submarines (SSGN) — the modernised Northern Fleet SSGN force (Oscar-II / Belgorod; ~3–4 boats) carrying long-range conventional cruise missiles; the underwater leg of the strategic-strike posture
  • Tactical ballistic missile force — the 9K720 "Iskander" mobile launcher force fielded by the Royal Strategic Forces Command in conventional configuration; supported by long-range conventional cruise missiles in dispersed silos and mobile launchers across the central plain and forest belt

The strategic-strike forces are constitutionally under direct royal command; release authority resides with the Crown and is subject to the Royal Strategic Forces Protocol established in 1973. No nuclear weapons, no SLBMs, no SSBNs — the Choktovakian deterrent posture rests on the credibility of mass long-range conventional precision strike against any peer adversary.
