Federated States Armed Forces¶

The unified military of the Federated States of Arcadia, organized under the Department of Defense and reporting to the Secretary of Defense and the President as Commander-in-Chief. The senior uniformed officer is the Chief of Staff (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs).

The FSA fields the largest military on Europa: approximately 1,250,000 active and 760,000 reserve, distributed across eight services. It is an all-volunteer force — initial contracts are 4 years active or 6 years reserve.

Unified Combatant Commands¶

The FS Armed Forces operate through six geographic and four functional combatant commands. Service branches provide forces; the COCOMs employ them. Geographic AORs are organized around Europa's continents and oceans.

Functional commands¶

FS Special Operations Command (FSSOCOM) — All-service SOF.
FS Strategic Command (FSSTRATCOM) — Strategic conventional deterrence (long-range bombers + conventional cruise / ballistic missiles), space domain awareness, integrated cyber. No nuclear weapons — under the Outer Space Demilitarization Protocols and broader Europan canon, weapons of mass destruction are space-based kinetic systems (now Protocols-banned), and nuclear technology is restricted to power generation. FSSTRATCOM's deterrent role is therefore conventional only.
FS Transportation Command (FSTRANSCOM) — Strategic mobility.
FS Cyber Command (FSCYBERCOM) — Defensive and offensive cyber.

Manpower and modernization¶

All-volunteer force. Initial enlistment contract is 4 years active or 6 years reserve. There is no peacetime conscription; the National Defense Act preserves a draft mechanism for declared general war.
Total mobilized strength (active + reserve) is approximately 2,010,000 — the largest peacetime force on Europa.
Current modernization track is "Modern US Military, 2020s" baseline with selective fielding of next-generation systems: the M7 rifle (replacing the M16A5 over the next decade), the M250 GPMG (replacing the M240L), and emerging Anduril-/Shield-AI-class autonomous and AI-augmented platforms being trialed in late-decade procurement programs.
