Die Kaiserliche Marine

The Imperial Navy of the Kaiserreich (Die Kaiserliche Marine) is the empire's seagoing service. Approximately 108,000 active personnel, including the Naval Air Arm and the Naval Infantry (Marineinfanterie). The empire's principal naval base is at Königswasser on the Hesperian Ocean coast; secondary bases at Süderhafen and Nordheim cover the empire's northern coastline.

Doctrine

The Kaiserliche Marine is a green-water sea-control navy, not a blue-water power-projection force. Its principal missions are:

  1. Securing the Hesperian Ocean tanker routes — the empire's strategic energy import dependency makes this the Marine's defining mission
  2. Contesting Thumbrian and UTSR naval operations in the Hesperian and northern Aegiran Seas
  3. Joint operations with OFBN naval partners under the OFBN Joint Naval Command
  4. Defense of the empire's coastline and ports
  5. Amphibious operations in coordination with the Marineinfanterie and Heer expeditionary forces

The Marine is doctrinally focused on surface combatants and attack submarines rather than capital ships. The empire does not operate aircraft carriers; carrier-class operations are provided in coalition contexts by Eurekan or WDP partners.

Force structure

The Kaiserliche Marine is organized into:

  • Die Flotte (the Fleet) — the principal surface and submarine combat force, headquartered at Königswasser
  • Die Marineluftwaffe (Naval Air Arm) — maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare, naval rotary-wing
  • Die Marineinfanterie (Naval Infantry) — the empire's amphibious and shipboard security force
  • Die Küstenwache (Coast Guard) — coastal defense, fisheries protection, search and rescue (administratively under the Marine but with separate command in peacetime)

Principal vessels

[TBD — Barry to specify class names and quantities. Conventional placeholder structure:]

Surface combatants

Class Type Role Quantity
TBD Destroyer (DDG) Anti-air, anti-surface ~14
TBD Frigate (FFG) Anti-submarine, general purpose ~22
TBD Corvette Coastal patrol, near-water defense ~16
TBD Fast attack craft (missile) Coastal strike, sea-lane defense ~24

Submarines

Class Type Role Quantity
TBD SSK (diesel-electric attack) Sea-lane interdiction, ISR ~12

The Marine does not operate nuclear-powered submarines; the Kaiserreich is a signatory to the Outer Space Demilitarization Protocols and the subsequent treaties limiting nuclear naval propulsion, and the empire's submarine force is air-independent-propulsion (AIP) diesel-electric.

Amphibious

Class Type Role Quantity
TBD LPD (Landing Platform Dock) Amphibious lift, Marineinfanterie ~4
TBD LST (Landing Ship Tank) Beach assault, vehicle landing ~6

Auxiliaries

Fleet replenishment oilers, salvage and recovery, hospital ships, depot ships, and the various support vessels common to a peer-power navy. Quantities and class designations TBD.

Bases

Base Location Role
Königswasser Hesperian coast (eastern) Principal naval base; fleet headquarters; major shipyard
Süderhafen Hesperian coast (north-eastern) Northern fleet base; submarine pens
Nordheim Subarctic North coast Cold-water operations; secondary base
Vatersbürg-See Inland Naval academy; staff college; logistics depot

The Marineluftwaffe operates:

  • Maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) — long-range surveillance, anti-submarine warfare
  • Anti-submarine helicopters — embarked on frigates and destroyers
  • Search-and-rescue rotary-wing — distributed across coastal stations

Carrier-based aviation is not part of the empire's organic force structure. Maritime air patrol is the Marineluftwaffe's principal role.

Marineinfanterie

The Imperial Naval Infantry is the empire's amphibious force. Approximately 12,000 personnel organized into one Marineinfanterie-Brigade with three battalions plus supporting elements (engineer, reconnaissance, fire support). Marineinfanterie are recruited from volunteer Heer transfers and trained for:

  • Amphibious assault and beachhead establishment
  • Shipboard security and boarding operations
  • Limited expeditionary land operations from amphibious lift

The Marineinfanterie are smaller and less expeditionary-focused than the FSA Marine Corps. The Kaiserreich does not pursue forward presence in the FSMC mode; its naval infantry is sized for theater operations within reach of the empire's amphibious lift.

OFBN Joint Naval Command

The OFBN Joint Naval Command (JNC) coordinates the naval operations of OFBN member states across the Hesperian and northern Aegiran Seas. The JNC operates a rotating command structure; the current JNC commander is [TBD] (Velian Admiral in the most recent rotation).

Joint operations include:

  • Hesperian sea-lane patrol — protection of OFBN-member shipping
  • Coordinated anti-submarine operations — against UTSR and PRK-aligned submarines
  • Joint exercises — annual large-scale OFBN naval exercises
  • Intelligence sharing — maritime ISR coordination

Current operations (Continuation War)

The Marine is in full wartime posture. Principal current operations:

  • Tanker route protection across the Hesperian (continuous)
  • Anti-submarine patrol in the northern Aegiran Sea
  • Surface combatant escort for OFBN merchant convoys to Caldorian oil suppliers
  • Coastal defense of the empire's Hesperian coastline
  • Limited amphibious operations in support of Heer expeditionary forces (specifics classified)

The Marine's wartime production line at the Königswasser shipyards is operating at maximum capacity under Article XII emergency powers, with additional destroyer and frigate hulls under construction for 2027–2028 delivery.
