The Republic of Aegira is the senior maritime power of central Sierra. Its territory comprises a seven-island archipelago in the Aegiran Sea, the body of water that sits at the geographic and commercial center of the Sierran continent. Aegira dominates Sierra's central sea lanes through a combination of geographic position, sixteen centuries of accumulated maritime expertise, and the largest peer-tier blue-water navy in Sierra.

The republic in 2026 is at war. Following the outbreak of the Continuation War in July 2026, CSAT forces seized the three eastern islands of the Aegiran archipelago in a coordinated amphibious operation. The Aegiran Marines conducted a hard-fought delaying action that successfully evacuated the bulk of the civilian population, but the islands remain under CSAT occupation. The retaking of the eastern islands is the republic's defining war aim and the dominant political question in Krygos.

Sovereignty and government

Aegira is a federal republic of seven historic island city-states, united under the Federal Constitution of 423 (subsequently amended many times, most consequentially in 1972 after the Continental Wars). Each island retains substantial internal autonomy and is represented in the Federal Assembly in Krygos. The Federal Government handles foreign affairs, defense, the navy, currency, and trade; education, internal infrastructure, fisheries management, and most civil law remain island-level competencies.

The head of state is the President of the Republic, ceremonially primary. The head of government is the First Citizen (Protos Polites), elected by the Federal Assembly from among its members.

Strategic posture

The republic's strategic priorities in 2026, in rough order:

  1. Retake the eastern islands. The recapture of the occupied territory is the republic's overriding war aim.
  2. Defend the remaining four islands and the Krygos heartland. CSAT amphibious capability remains a credible ongoing threat.
  3. Maintain Aegiran Sea sea control in coalition with the WDP allies. The Aegiran Navy is the senior WDP naval force in the central Sierran maritime theater.
  4. Sustain the war economy. The loss of the eastern islands has cut GDP by an estimated 15–20%; the displaced eastern population must be housed, fed, and politically managed.
  5. Preserve maritime trade flow through the Aegiran Sea, both for the republic's own economy and for the broader WDP coalition.
