Die Kaiserliche Marineinfanterie

The Imperial Marine Infantry of the Kaiserreich (Die Kaiserliche Marineinfanterie) is the empire's amphibious and littoral combat service. 110,000 active personnel + 96,150 trained reservists. Originally a component of the Kaiserliche Marine, the Marineinfanterie was elevated to fourth full service in the 1998 reorganization, reflecting the centrality of amphibious power projection to OFBN coalition operations.

Headquartered at Marinekorps-Hauptquartier Königswasser, the service combines the Seebataillon tradition of the original Imperial Navy infantry component with modern USMC-style Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) organization.

Doctrine

The Marineinfanterie is a combined-arms expeditionary force. Its principal missions are:

  1. Amphibious assault — forcible entry from sea via the Kaiserliche Marine's Amphibische Flottille
  2. Littoral combat — coastal raid, port seizure, island operations
  3. MAGTF deployment — afloat as ready force projection (1 MEB always-afloat)
  4. Reinforcement of WDP partners by sealift
  5. Crisis response and noncombatant evacuation — the empire's go-to overseas hostage / evacuation force

The Marineinfanterie embraces vertical envelopment via V-22 Osprey + F-35B STOVL as its tactical-mobility multiplier, distinguishing it doctrinally from the heavier amphibious-assault model of Volnian Naval Infantry or the lighter raid-focused model of FSA Marine Raiders.

  • F-35B Lightning II (STOVL) — Marinejagdgeschwader per MEB. The only STOVL fighter in service in OFBN; operates from Blutfeld-class LHDs.
  • V-22 Osprey — Marinekipprotorgeschwader per MEB. Strategic tactical mobility; lifts a Marine company by tiltrotor.
  • NH-90 TTH (Marine variant) — Marinesturmhubschrauberbataillon per MEB.
  • Tiger UHT (Marine variant) — Marinekampfhubschrauberbataillon per MEB.

Common with the Heer: HK33A2 service rifle, Puma IFV (1. Marinedivision heavy element), PzH 2000 (only the 1. Marinedivision artillery; MEBs use M777), MG5 GPMG, body armor NIJ Level IV.

Marine Expeditionary Brigade composition

Each MEB is a self-contained Marine Air-Ground Task Force of approximately 5,000 personnel that can be embarked aboard one Blutfeld-class LHD + 1 Königsbrücke-class LPD + 1 Tiefland-class LST. The standard MAGTF tri-element model:

Ground Combat Element (GCE)

  • 3 Marine infantry battalions (~800 personnel each)
  • 1 Marine artillery battalion (M777 155mm — air-mobile)
  • Recon, ATGM, mortar attachments

Air Combat Element (ACE)

  • 1 F-35B STOVL squadron (~10 aircraft)
  • 1 NH-90 assault helicopter battalion
  • 1 Tiger attack helicopter battalion
  • 1 V-22 Osprey tiltrotor squadron

Logistics Combat Element (LCE)

  • 1 Marine combat logistics battalion (CLB)

Marine Spezialkräfte (Marine Raiders)

The Marine Spezialkräfte Kommando is the service's special operations component. Two Marine Raider Bataillone (~800 operators total), specializing in:

  • Direct action against littoral targets
  • Maritime interdiction (boarding, ship seizure)
  • Special reconnaissance from sea
  • Coalition SOF integration with KSK and LSR-8

Operationally controlled by Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) in wartime per the joint SOF arrangement; administratively under Marinekorps-Hauptquartier.

Continuation War status (Turn 0)

  • 1. Marineexpeditionsbrigade (1 MEB) has been afloat in the Aegiran Sea since August 2026, deployed aboard KMS Blutfeld + KMS Königsbrücke + KMS Tiefland. Conducting forward-presence operations + amphibious-strike contingency posture against Volnian and Rakutanian coastal targets.
  • 2. MEB at Königswasser as the ready force.
  • 1. Marinedivision is held at Königswasser as the strategic Marine ground reserve; one regimental task force may rotate to Aegira on coalition request.
  • Marine Spezialkräfte has conducted limited maritime interdiction operations under KSK control.
