Geography¶
The Federated States of Arcadia occupies the western portion of the Sierran continent, anchored by the Arcadian Mountains along its western coast and extending east into the federal heartland.

The Arcadian Mountains¶
The defining feature of the federation's western coast — a massive range home to vast mineral resources, forming a natural barrier between the trans-Keltic nations and the interior.
The Arcadian range is:
- A continental-scale barrier running along the western seaboard
- The principal source of the federation's rare-earth and base-metal deposits
- A natural defensive feature against approaches from the trans-Keltic west
- A major source of hydroelectric power
- Home to several federal protected wilderness areas
The Federal Heartland¶
East of the Arcadians and west of the Great Sierran Steppe lies the federation's temperate continental core — extensive plains, river basins, and lake systems. This is the demographic and industrial center of the FSA, hosting:
- The federal capital, Tarsus
- Most of the federation's population and industrial base
- The major federal military installations (Fort Halloran, Fort Tradd, Fort Brookhaven, Fort Conrad, Fort Sanders)
- The principal road and rail trunk lines
The Hesperian Seaboard¶
Arcadia's principal blue-water coast faces the Hesperian Ocean. This coastline hosts:
- The principal Federation Navy bases (Norfax, Sub Base Brookhaven)
- Major civilian port complexes
- Federation Marine Expeditionary Force bases (Camp Sullivan)
- The first line of Continental Defense surveillance and intercept
The Northern Boreal Frontier¶
The federation's northernmost territories are forested boreal regions transitioning into the Northern Ocean. Sparsely populated, militarily significant as the northern early-warning approach.
The Aegiran Borderlands¶
Where the FSA's southern territories meet the Aegiran Sea, the federation maintains naval and air bases supporting operations against the Aegiran Archipelago and providing power projection toward Livonia and Chartania.
Climate¶
Continental temperate across the federal heartland; cold continental in the boreal north; humid subtropical on the southern Aegiran coast; alpine in the Arcadian Mountains. Four distinct seasons across most of the federation, with greater seasonal variation in the interior and milder maritime climate along the Hesperian seaboard.
