The Leipzisch Kaiserreich is the senior land power of free Brassica and the founding partner, alongside the Republic of Velicuse, of the Organisation of Free Brassican Nations (OFBN). Established in 1682 as a constitutional monarchy under the Kaiser, the empire has spent the last three and a half centuries as the principal counterweight to Thumbrian power in Brassica. The cultural anchor of the state is Germanic-imperial in tone: an army with a nation rather than a nation with an army, in the phrase the Leipzans themselves use without irony.

The empire's strategic situation in 2026 is shaped by two long-running pressures. First, the unfinished business of the Continental Wars: the Kaiserreich was nearly defeated by Thumbria during the Early Period and survived only because of the Velian Intervention, an episode that anchors Leipzan strategic culture and the centrality of the Velian-Leipzan alliance. Second, the Thumbrian and UTSR-sponsored cultural and political pressure on the empire's southern industrial belt, where socialist political organizing has become an ongoing internal-security concern.

In 2026 the empire entered the Continuation War as a WDP partner state, contributing expeditionary forces and material aid to the western coalition. The Kaiserreich is not a full WDP member; the alliance with Velicuse and the OFBN structure remain the primary formal commitments. WDP partnership is the secondary track.

Sovereignty and government

The Kaiserreich is a constitutional monarchy under the Settlement of 1682, the founding constitutional document of the modern empire. The Kaiser is sovereign and Supreme Commander of the Imperial Armed Forces; day-to-day governance is conducted by the Reichskanzler (Chancellor) and the Imperial Cabinet, accountable to the Reichstag (Imperial Diet). Provincial governance retains substantial autonomy from the imperial centre, a legacy of the federated principalities that united to form the modern state.

Strategic posture

The Kaiserreich's strategic priorities, in rough order:

  1. Hold the Thumbrian frontier. The southern border with Thumbria is the empire's primary strategic concern. The Continental Wars memory shapes every decision made about this front.
  2. Preserve the Velian-Leipzan alliance. OFBN exists because Velicuse and the Kaiserreich agree it should. Maintaining that bilateral is the foundation of Brassican Western policy.
  3. Suppress Thumbrian cultural and political influence operations in the southern industrial belt.
  4. Contribute to the Continuation War effort as a WDP partner, principally in the Brassican theater against UTSR-aligned formations.
  5. Secure energy supply — the empire's oil and gas import dependency makes Hesperian maritime trade route security strategically critical.
