Foreign Relations¶

The Federated States of Arcadia is the lead nation of the Western Defense Pact and the principal architect of the post-1972 international order codified in the Treaty of Chartania. Its current foreign policy is dominated by the simultaneous conduct of the Continuation War and the Volnian Civil War.

Allies and partners¶

Western Defense Pact (WDP)¶

The principal Arcadian-led mutual-defense alliance.

Federated States of Arcadia

Founder and lead nation. Provides the bulk of military force, the alliance's reserve currency, and the diplomatic anchor.
Republic of Gorlund

Continental ally and primary land-theater partner. The Gorlish Defense Forces are the WDP's largest non-Arcadian standing army.
Republic of Aegira

Maritime ally. Controls the Aegiran Archipelago and the Aegiran Sea approaches; provides forward naval basing for the WDP.
Volnian Empire

Formalized membership at the outset of the Continuation War, formerly a strategic rival across the post-1972 era.

The WDP provides for collective defense (attack on one = attack on all), standardized military equipment and interoperability, joint training and combined exercises, and shared intelligence.

Arcadian Economic Community (AEC)¶

The principal economic bloc, separate from but largely co-extensive with the WDP. Provides shared currency (the Arcadian Dollar), open trade, and citizen mobility.

Eastern Strategic Alliance (ESA)¶

The principal anti-FSA bloc.

Democratic People's Republic of Rakutania

Successor to the Messoman eastern remnant. Revolutionary communist, aggressive, the principal land-theater belligerent in the Continuation War.
Confederated States of Ardun Territories (CSAT)

Successor to the Messoman western remnant. Authoritarian; aggressive maritime and air doctrine, responsible for the bomber raid that damaged the FSS Arcadia.

ESA cooperation is best described as a coalition of convenience focused on countering Western influence rather than a deep institutional alliance like the WDP.

Kingdom of Choktovakia¶

A constitutional monarchy with a powerful military-industrial complex. Choktovakia is not an ESA member but operates as a third pole of continental power through the Sierra Non-Aligned Movement (SNAM).

Arcadia and Choktovakia maintain formal diplomatic relations but are strategic rivals. Choktovakian intervention is the principal worry of the Arcadian general staff if the Continuation War expands.

Neutrals and complicated relationships¶

Principality of Chartania¶

The neutral arbiter of Sierra, home to the International Court and the negotiating venue for both Continental Wars armistices and the Treaty of Chartania. Arcadia maintains an "indispensable diplomatic partner" relationship with Chartania despite the latter's strict neutrality.

Republic of Livonia¶

A buffer state walking a tightrope between blocs. Arcadia provided substantial military assistance to Livonia during the Continental Wars; today the relationship is cordial but Livonia remains formally non-aligned.

Sierra Non-Aligned Movement (SNAM)¶

Choktovakian-led organization including Livonia, Chartania, and smaller states. Promotes military neutrality with mutual-consultation provisions during continental crises.
